NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The St. Olaf College women's soccer team outshot Macalester College by a 19-7 margin, but the Scots got a late goal to claim a 1-0 victory in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play on Saturday afternoon at Rolf Mellby Field.
Mikaely Evans netted the lone goal of the game in the 78th minute for Macalester (6-4-0, 4-1-0 MIAC) to give the visitors the win in a game that saw St. Olaf (3-4-3, 1-2-2 MIAC) hold 64 percent possession and tally 19 of the game's 27 shots. The Oles had seven shots on goal to four for the Scots but were shut out for the fourth time this season.

Emily Johnson came the closest to scoring for St. Olaf but hit the woodwork in the 20th minute. The Oles fired 12 of the first half's 15 shots but could not find a way past Abigail Heuga in goal for the Scots.
With the game still scoreless, Macalester grabbed all three points when Evans put home a rebound off a shot by Julia Hanson that stemmed from a 3-on-2 break for the Scots. Pressing for a tying goal, St. Olaf earned a corner kick with 25 seconds remaining but the ball in narrowly evaded several plays in the box before rolling to towards the sideline to allow time to expire.
Heuga stopped all seven shots she faced for Macalester to collect the win, while senior
Maddie Black had three saves in the loss for St. Olaf.
The Oles head to Hamline University for a 3:30 p.m. start on Saturday, Oct. 7.
