Women's tennis blanks Concordia-Moorhead in first dual match

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Five members of the St. Olaf College women's tennis team were victorious in both singles and doubles to send the Oles to a 9-0 victory over Concordia-Moorhead in their lone dual match of the fall on Saturday afternoon at Carlson Courts.

Senior Olha Zubarieva, senior Jane Spading, senior Fiona O'Flaherty, junior Alexandra Berns, and senior Sarah Clark were all 2-0 on the day to propel St. Olaf (1-0, 1-0 MIAC) to its 25th win in a row over Concordia (0-4, 0-2 MIAC) going back to 2003. The Oles lost just 24 games across the nine matches to sweep the Cobbers during Homecoming and Family Weekend on the Hill.

St. Olaf won all three of the doubles matches by identical 8-1 scores with wins from the pairs of Zubarieva and Spading, O'Flaherty and Berns, and Clark and junior Emma Clift. Singles was a similar story as the Oles claimed straight-set victories at each of the six spots in the lineup.

Zubarieva did not drop a game at No. 1 singles, O'Flaherty and Berns lost just two at No. 3 singles and No. 4 singles, respectively, and sophomore Mads Hockmuth surrendered just three at No. 6 singles. Spading played the closest match of the day but closed it out in a second-set tiebreak, while Clark polished off a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles.

St. Olaf will return to competition with matches against Wartburg College and Northwestern College on Saturday, Feb. 22 at Tostrud Fieldhouse.
