ST. PETER, Minn. – The St. Olaf College women's hockey team was blanked 3-0 by second-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College in its Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) opener on Friday night at Don Roberts Ice Rink.
Coming off a loss to top-ranked UW-River Falls, Gustavus (1-1-0, 1-0-0 MIAC) scored once in each period and got a 15-save shutout from Lily Timmons to claim the three-goal win over St. Olaf (2-3-0, 0-1-0 MIAC). Two of the Gusties' three goals came on the power play.
Kaitlyn Holland tallied the lone goal of the opening period for Gustavus with a power-play goal at 15:13 of the first. Lindsay Berggren scored 5:02 into the second and Lily Mortensen added a power-play goal 1:03 into the third for the Gusties.
St. Olaf was 0-for-3 on the power play in the game, while Gustavus was 2-for-3 on the night. Senior
Devon Cole made 27 saves for the Oles in the loss.
The series finale between the two teams is slated for 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16 at St. Olaf Ice Arena.
