ST. PAUL, Minn. – The St. Olaf College men's basketball team was unable to slow down the University of Northwestern in an 85-58 loss to the Eagles on Saturday afternoon at Ericksen Center.
St. Olaf (1-5) trailed 39-30 at halftime before Northwestern (3-2) pulled away with a 46-point second half to snap the Oles' six-game winning streak in the series that dated back to 2001. The Eagles shot 59.0 percent (36-for-61) from the field in the game and had four scorers in double figures, led by a 26-point, 11-rebound double-double by Soren Anderson.

Kobe Kirk led the Oles with 15 points on 7-for-14 shooting from the field. First year
AJ Uhl matched his season high with 10 points on 4-for-7 shooting in 17 minutes. Ten Oles scored in the game but only Kirk and Uhl had more than six for St. Olaf, which shot 40.7 percent (24-for-59) as a team.
Northwestern shot 62.1 percent (18-for-29) overall in the opening half to take a 39-30 lead into the locker room. A three-pointer by senior
Dashiel Walker midway through the half gave St. Olaf its largest lead of the game at 17-14, but the Eagles answered with a 14-3 run over a four-minute stretch to go up by eight.

Jachin Mertes ended the Oles' drought and got it back to a five-point game, but Northwestern scored the next five points to open up its largest lead of the half at 33-23 with 5:12 remaining. Five Oles made one three-pointer apiece in the opening half, but St. Olaf was just 1-for-9 (11.1 percent) from behind the arc in the second half and was unable to get any closer than seven after the break.
The Oles will be back home against UW-Eau Claire for a 7 p.m. tip-off on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at Bob Gelle Court.
