OWATONNA, Minn. – The St. Olaf College men's tennis team was defeated 9-0 by No. 12-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play on Saturday morning at West Hills Tennis and Fitness Center.
Nationally-ranked Gustavus (5-1, 3-0 MIAC) dropped seven games in the three doubles matches and won five of the six singles matches in straight sets. Senior
Karsten Johnson won the second set of his match at No. 6 singles for St. Olaf (1-2, 1-2 MIAC) before falling 10-8 in the super tiebreaker.
The closest of the three doubles matches came at No. 2 doubles where seniors
Jerusalem Thao and
Max Loesch battled to an 8-6 defeat. In singles, Johnson recovered from dropping the opening set to force the match to a decider before going down 6-1, 3-6, 10-8.

Henry Kruse played tight first sets in their matches at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively, before falling in straight sets.
St. Olaf finishes its weekend of back-to-back MIAC matches with a 12:30 p.m. start against Hamline University on Sunday, March 3 at InnerCity Tennis in Minneapolis.
