CHICAGO, Ill. – The St. Olaf College volleyball team won the first set before the host University of Chicago rallied to claim the final three to deal the Oles a 19-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-18 defeat to conclude the Rosalie Resch Invitational on Saturday at Ratner Athletics Center.

In the first set, Rogers had kills on two of the first three points as St. Olaf got out to a 3-0 lead and never relinquished the lead. Midway through the set, the Oles stretched their lead to nine at 15-6 with a 6-2 run and led by as many as 20-10 before the Maroons fought back to get within four at 21-17. Miller delivered two of her four kills in the set over the final four points to help St. Olaf to a one-set lead.
Each of the final three sets all included at least seven ties, but UChicago won all three to claim the come-from-behind victory. In the second, the Maroons turned a 17-15 edge into a 24-17 cushion with a 7-2 run and eventually closed the set out by a 25-19 margin.
St. Olaf held 15-11 past the midway point of the third set, but UChicago won six of the next seven points to take a lead it would protect the rest of the way. In similar fashion, the Maroons trailed 11-10 in the fourth before winning five points in a row to take the lead for good. After trailing by six, the Oles fought back to cut their deficit to two at 19-17 but won just one point in the remainder of the match.
Next weekend, St. Olaf will head to UW-River Falls for the Falcon Invite on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 6-7. The Oles will open the tournament against the University of Minnesota Morris at 3 p.m. on Friday before facing Simpson College (3 p.m.) and UW-River Falls (7 p.m.) on Saturday.
