DUBUQUE, Iowa – The St. Olaf College volleyball team completed its second consecutive unbeaten weekend and ran its winning streak to seven matches with a five-set victory over Loras College and a sweep of UW-La Crosse on Saturday at the Duhawk Classic at Lillis Athletic and Wellness Center.
St. Olaf (8-2) started the day by rallying from a two-sets-to-one deficit to post a 28-26, 25-27, 18-25, 25-18, 15-12 victory over Loras (7-4) before sweeping past UW-La Crosse (3-7) by a 25-21, 25-13, 25-21 margin. The two victories finished off a 4-0 weekend for the Oles and gave the team its longest winning streak since an eight-match streak from Sept. 3-14, 2019.
St. Olaf will head to Wartburg College next weekend for three matches at the Wartburg Invitational. The Oles will meet up with Coe College (5 p.m.) and Wartburg (7 p.m.) on Friday, Sept. 20 before taking on Simpson College on Saturday, Sept. 21.

In the first meeting between the two programs since 2019, St. Olaf hit .355 over the final two sets to overcome a 2-1 deficit against Loras. Five Oles recorded double-digit kills in the five-set victory over the Duhawks.

St. Olaf held a 22-16 lead late in the opening set before Loras rallied to get within one by winning the next five points. The run was part of a larger 8-1 stretch that gave the hosts a set point at 24-23, but Rogers kept the Oles in the set with a kill. Trailing 26-25, St. Olaf saved another set point on a kill by Van Scoyoc before Miller delivered back-to-back aces to give the set to the Oles. St. Olaf had six aces in the opener to win it despite being outhit by nearly 60 points.
After an opening set that included eight ties and six lead changes, the second set included nine ties and four lead changes, as Loras evened it up at a set apiece. The Oles had two set points to go up two sets to none with a 24-22 lead, but the Duhawks won five of the final six points, including an ace off the top of the net on set point, to pull even.
Loras hit .372 and got a combined 11 kills from Autumn Finch and Sophie Younkin to win the third set before St. Olaf committed just one attack error and hit .400 on its way to taking the fourth. In the decider, the Oles built a 10-6 lead before holding off the Duhawks late in the fifth. Loras climbed to within one four times over the final nine points, but St. Olaf kept the hosts at bay before closing out the match with a kill by first year
Carlie Beckstrand. The Oles won 14 of their 15 points in the set with kills.

St. Olaf capped the four-win weekend by racking up 47 kills on its way to sweeping UW-La Crosse for the fourth time in the last four meetings since 2011. Van Scoyoc was the lone hitter on either team to record double-figure kills with a match-high 12 for the Oles.
Hobbie and Krause compiled seven kills apiece, while Ryan and Deist combined for 37 digs to help limit UW-La Crosse to a .137 attack percentage. Ryan tallied her fourth 20-dig effort of the season with a match-high 23, while Deist contributed 14.
Neither team led by more than three points in the opening set until St. Olaf won three points in a row to take an 18-14 advantage. UW-La Crosse countered with a 6-0 run of its own to go up by two at 20-18 but won just one point the rest of the set. Rogers and Beckstrand each had two kills in the 7-1 close to the set for the Oles.
Van Scoyoc exploded for seven of St. Olaf's 17 kills in the second set to help the Oles hit at a .394 clip in the set. The Oles won four of the first five points and did not trail in the set while leading by as many as the final differential of 25-13.
Eight Oles picked up at least one kill in the third and Ryan had nine digs in the set, as St. Olaf completed the sweep. Midway through the set, St. Olaf won five points in a row to turn a 12-10 advantage into a 17-10 cushion and held off a late rally by the Eagles to avoid a fourth set.
