MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Fifth-year senior tight end
Derek Hansen of the St. Olaf College football team earned D3football.com Second Team All-America honors, as the D3football.com All-America team was announced on Thursday morning.
Hansen became St. Olaf's third-ever D3football.com All-America honoree after a season where he recorded 50 receptions for 731 yards and eight touchdowns, leading the team in all three categories. Prior to Thursday, St. Olaf's other two D3football.com All-America selections were Horace Gant '08 (Third Team, 2007) and Brian Albrecht '12 (Honorable Mention, 2011).
Hansen added the first All-America accolade to his resume after being named to the All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Team for the third season in a row and picking up his first D3football.com All-Region accolade as a first-team honoree. This fall, Hansen caught at least one touchdown in five of St. Olaf's 10 games, had two 100-yard efforts, and posted five games with at least five receptions.
The Eagan product concluded his career ranked tied for third in program history in receptions (160), sixth in receiving touchdowns (23), eighth in receiving yards (2,029), and tied for ninth in receptions per game (4.00). All of those marks are the highest for a tight end in program history.
