FARGO, N.D. – The St. Olaf College men's tennis team recorded a 5-2 victory over Concordia-Moorhead in its Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) opener and final match of the fall season on Sunday afternoon at Courts Plus.
In a rematch of last season's MIAC Playoff quarterfinal, St. Olaf (1-1, 1-0 MIAC) won two of the three doubles matches and four of the six singles matches to defeat Concordia (2-3, 0-2 MIAC). Senior

Lou Smith were both victorious in singles and doubles for the Oles.

Madden Vanderwerf logged 6-4 victories at the top-two spots in doubles to give St. Olaf the doubles point. The wins were the second in three days for both tandems.
Vizoli recorded a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles to give the Oles a 2-0 lead before the Cobbers won a super tiebreak at No. 2 singles. Smith followed with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 3 singles to move to 2-0 in dual matches, but Concordia answered with a straight-set win at No. 4 singles to again get within a point.
Junior
Cathal Mee secured the team win with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles before sophomore
Jacob Schultz posted a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles in the final match on court. Schultz's win made him 3-0 in singles matches in the lineup in his career.
With its fall season in the books, St. Olaf will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 7 against Carthage College at West Hills Tennis and Fitness Center in Owatonna.
