ST. PAUL, Minn. – The St. Olaf College volleyball team collected its 10th consecutive victory by sweeping Hamline University by scores of 25-21, 25-21, 25-11 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play on Wednesday night at Hutton Arena.
After strong closes to each of the first two sets, St. Olaf (14-6, 4-0 MIAC) eased to the sweep in the third to defeat Hamline (7-7, 2-2 MIAC) for the ninth meeting in a row. The Oles, who received votes for the third week in a row in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) national poll, have lost just six sets in the nine consecutive wins over the Pipers.
The victory gave St. Olaf its first double-digit winning streak since a stretch of 12 consecutive wins from Sept. 15 through Oct. 1, 2010 and kept the Oles in first place in the MIAC standings as one of two undefeated teams in conference play.

With the score tied for the eighth time in the set, St. Olaf broke a 20-20 tie by winning five of the final six points of the set, with Ryan delivering back-to-back aces to bring up set points.
The second set featured 10 ties and five lead changes, as the Oles again made a late push to claim a 25-21 set win. After Hamline got within two at 21-19, Krause and Van Scoyoc provided kills on consecutive points to help St. Olaf get over the line and take a two-set lead. Krause and Van Scoyoc had six kills apiece in the set with just one error.
The third set was much more straightforward for St. Olaf, which hit .419 with 15 kills and two errors in the set and limited Hamline to two kills on 22 swings (.045). Five Oles had two or three kills apiece in the finale, while four Oles combined for five aces in the set. St. Olaf started the set on a 7-0 run that included three kills apiece from Krause and Van Scoyoc and led by at least five the rest of the way.
St. Olaf will host No. 24-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College in a meeting of the lone two remaining unbeaten teams in conference play on Friday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. at Skoglund Center.
