No. 21 Oles win fourth consecutive MIAC team cross country title

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The No. 21-ranked St. Olaf College men's cross country team won its fourth consecutive Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) team title with a 51-point margin of victory at the MIAC Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning at Highland 9 Cross Country Trailhead.

Led by seven All-MIAC (top 15) performances, St. Olaf won the meet for the fourth season in a row by compiling a team score of 33 points, 51 ahead of second-place Carleton College. The 51-point margin was the second-highest by a winning team since 2015, trailing the Oles' record margin of 73 points from a year ago.

Senior Kevin Turlington was the runner-up for the second season in a row and earned his third consecutive All-MIAC accolade with a time of 24:32.7, trailing only Augsburg University's Mohammed Bati, who became the first four-time individual champion in recorded conference history. As a team, St. Olaf had six finishers cross the line before any other team had two.

Seniors Jack Deaver and Gael Manzur Strandlund were separated by just half a second in fifth (25:43.9) and sixth (25:44.4), respectively, while classmate Eli Doran made it four Oles in the top 10 in ninth (25:53.1). Deaver and Manzur Strandlund picked up All-MIAC honors for the second seasons in row, while Doran did so for the first time.

Sophomore Cooper Gunderson posted St. Olaf's fifth counting score in 11th (25:59.6) with a personal-best 8K time, followed closely by senior Ignatius Fitzgerald in 12th (26:00.5) for Fitzgerald's second consecutive all-conference performance. First year Connor Hitchcock rounded out the seven All-MIAC showings for the Oles in 14th (26:02.1).

Junior Alek Bjork was an Honorable Mention All-MIAC honoree for the second season in a row in 17th (26:17.3), while senior Angelo Fiataruolo was not far behind in 18th (26:21.4). Senior Parker Max (21st, 26:29.1) and first year Noah DuVivier (24th, 26:41.2) also finished in the honorable-mention spots.
