Kauck catches two touchdowns, football falls to Saint John's in season finale

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The St. Olaf College football team concluded its season with a 63-21 loss to No. 7/8-ranked Saint John's University on Saturday afternoon at Clemens Stadium.

Sophomore Jackson Kauck caught a pair of touchdowns for St. Olaf (4-6, 3-6 MIAC) in the loss to nationally-ranked Saint John's (9-1, 8-1 MIAC), which was ranked No. 7 in this week's American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Top 25 poll and No. 8 in the D3football.com Top 25. The 21 points were the most scored by the Oles against the Johnnies since St. Olaf's last victory in the series, a 38-35 win in Collegeville on Sept. 29, 2012.

Saint John's scored touchdowns on its first nine possessions of the game before St. Olaf got the final two touchdowns of the afternoon. The Johnnies held a 35-0 lead midway through the third quarter before junior Luke Crosby found Kauck for a 19-yard touchdown to finish off an eight-play, 75-yard drive to get the Oles on the board with 4:20 to go before halftime.

In the fourth quarter, Kauck caught a three-yard touchdown from first year Michael Gonzales after sophomore Antonio Bridges Jr. recovered a fumble forced by fifth-year senior Jacob Vasquez to set up St. Olaf inside the Saint John's 20-yard line. The two-touchdown game was the second in a row for Kauck.

The Oles capitalized on a 25-yard punt by the Johnnies to score the final touchdown of the afternoon with 2:21 remaining. After junior Rob Htoo ran for 37 yards on five carries down to the one-yard line, first year Magnus Hansen finished the drive with a one-yard touchdown run for his first collegiate touchdown.

First year Ciaran Lee led the St. Olaf defense with a season-high 11 total tackles, nine of which were solo stops.
