BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Three St. Olaf College student-athletes were selected as one of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Athletes of the Week in their respective sports on Monday.
Sophomore
Elise Hahn was named the MIAC Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week, first year
Ryan Nolan was chosen as the MIAC Men's Hockey Defensive Player of the Week, and senior
Solvei Berg-Messerole was tabbed the MIAC Women's Hockey Offensive Player of the Week. The MIAC Athlete of the Week accolade was the first of Hahn's career, the fourth of Berg-Messerole's career, and the second in three weeks for Nolan.
Berg-Messerole had a hand in all four of St. Olaf's goals in its weekend split with fifth-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College with two goals and two assists. The senior scored twice - including the game-winner at 3:54 of overtime - in a 3-2 win on Friday night that was the Oles' first win over the Gusties since 2012 and their third ever in 55 meetings. Berg-Messerole also assisted on St. Olaf's goal in a 2-1 overtime loss on Saturday in St. Peter.
Hahn averaged a double-double of 12.5 points and 16.0 rebounds while also recording six steals and four blocked shots in St. Olaf's 2-0 week to start the season. The sophomore set career highs in points (17), rebounds (17), blocks (3), and steals (3) in Tuesday's 56-47 win at Crown College before grabbing 15 more rebounds to go with three steals and a block in Saturday's 66-65 victory over Buena Vista University.
Nolan racked up 82 saves and a .965 save percentage to pick up the victory in both games of St. Olaf's sweep of defending conference champion Gustavus this weekend. The first year made a season-high 48 saves - the most by an Ole goaltender since 2017 - in a 5-2 road win on Friday night before stopping 34-of-35 shots in a 2-1 home victory the next day.
