ST. PAUL, Minn. – The St. Olaf College women's swimming and diving team swept a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) double dual against St. Catherine University and the College of Saint Benedict, while the men's team tied Saint John's University on Saturday at Butler Center Pool.
The St. Olaf women's team topped St. Kate's by a 227-69 margin and Saint Ben's by a 191-108 score, while the men's team won the swimming portion of its meet by 32 points but wound up in a tie after the diving results. The Ole men won eight individual events and one relay, while the women's team had seven individual event victories and one winning relay.
Senior
Aiden Yung won a team-high three events individually and swam on St. Olaf's first-place men's 200-yard medley relay (1:38.41) along with senior
Nick Starcevich, junior
Jack Homme, and senior
William Wallace. Individually, Yung swept the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.29) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:12.36) titles and won the 200-yard individual medley (2:00.99).
Starcevich added first-place performances in the 50-yard freestyle (21.81) and 100-yard freestyle (48.84). Junior
Luke Williams was the first to touch the wall in the 100-yard backstroke (57.07), while sophomore
Daniel Cameron did so in the 200-yard butterfly (2:08.18) and Homme did so in the 100-yard butterfly (54.31).
Junior
Katie Homme paced the Ole women by winning the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.89) and 500-yard freestyle (5:27.60), while also swimming the anchor leg of the first-place women's 200-yard medley relay (1:50.93). Sophomore
Olivia Small, junior
Alana Schmitzer, and sophomore
McKenna Hultgren joined Homme on the winning relay.
Small added a pair of top-two finishes in the backstroke events, placing first in the 100-yard backstroke (59.43) and second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:09.17). Junior
Samantha Sylvester and senior
Paige Steenblock also won swimming events, with Sylvester taking first in the 100-yard freestyle (54.89) and Steenblock in the 200-yard individual medley (2:17.30).
Senior
Zibby Hanifl posted the top scores of the day in both women's diving events, scoring 381.80 on the one-meter board and 406.00 on the three-meter board.
Both teams will host Gustavus Adolphus College for another MIAC dual on Friday, Nov. 7 at 5 p.m.
