NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The St. Olaf College men's basketball team hit 17 three-pointers on its way to a 95-72 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) victory over Concordia-Moorhead on Wednesday evening at Skoglund Center.
Eight different student-athletes made at least one three-pointer and five hit at least two for St. Olaf (5-5, 2-1 MIAC), which outscored Concordia (5-2, 0-2 MIAC) by a 51-15 margin from behind the arc win the win. The Oles' 17 made three-pointers and 95 points were the programs highest totals since a 98-62 victory over the Cobbers on Jan. 20, 2018.
Since making single-digit three-pointers in each of its first five games of the season, St. Olaf has made at least 10 in four of its last five games. Senior
Kobe Kirk scored a game-high 24 points on 7-for-15 from the field and 8-for-11 at the free-throw line to move up to third on the program's all-time scoring list (1,405), surpassing Dan Halvorsen '73 (1,388).
Sophomores
Rex Lamb,
Luther Tostrud, and
AJ Uhl all joined Kirk in double figures in scoring. Lamb had the second-best scoring game of his career with 19 points on 8-for-11 shooting, including going 3-for-6 from long distance, while Tostrud came off the bench to go 4-for-5 from three-point range on a season-high 12-point night. Uhl added 10 points, six rebounds, and three assists, while sophomore
Liam Madigan contributed seven points, eight rebounds, and a career-high seven assists.
Seven Oles made at least one three-pointer in the first half to help St. Olaf to a 52-35 halftime lead, as the Oles went 12-for-20 (60.0 percent) from deep in the first 20 minutes. St. Olaf made its first four shots, including three-pointers by sophomore
Liam Roche and Madigan, in the opening 2:39 of the game and trailed for just 13 seconds in the game.
Payton Schell made a three-pointer seven minutes in to give the Cobbers their lone lead of the game at 13-12, but the Oles quickly answered with one of three first-half threes from Tostrud that ignited a 14-2 run, which ended with another Tostrud three-pointer for a 12-point lead. First year
Max Kraay also made three three-pointers in the 52-point opening half for the Oles.
St. Olaf led by at least 15 points for the entire second half despite cooling off to 5-for-20 (25.0 percent) from behind the arc. The Oles' largest lead of the night was 30 following a Tostrud three-pointer with 2:35 remaining.
St. Olaf will close out 2025 by participating in the Nicolet National Bank Holiday Tournament at St. Norbert College on Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 29-30. The Oles will open the tournament against the host Green Knights at 7 p.m. on Monday evening.
