BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – First year
Olivia Small of the St. Olaf College women's swimming and diving team collected the first Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Athlete of the Week accolade of her career by being named the MIAC Women's Swimmer of the Week on Tuesday.
Small became the four Ole to earn MIAC Women's Swimmer of the Week honors this season after being part of two Thorpe Pool records during St. Olaf's dual at Carleton College on Saturday. The first year led off the Oles' 400-yard medley relay that broke the pool record in 4:02.40 with a split of 58.64 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke, which also topped the previous pool record.
Small also won the 50-yard backstroke (27.51) and 200-yard backstroke (2:11.26) at the meet, while placing third in the 50-yard butterfly (27.85). She currently holds the MIAC's top time this season in the 100-yard backstroke (57.20) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:04.55).
In its final meet before the MIAC Championships, St. Olaf will visit the University of Minnesota's Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center for the Minnesota First Chance Meet on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 7-8.
