WAVERLY, Iowa – The St. Olaf College men's tennis teams split a pair of 5-2 matches against Northwestern College and Wartburg College on Saturday at Meirink Family Tennis Facility.
St. Olaf (5-4) shook up its lineups and came away with a 5-2 loss to Northwestern (3-7) and a 5-2 win over Wartburg (9-12) in the two non-conference matches. First years

Jacob Schultz recorded their first collegiate singles wins in the victory over the Knights.
The Oles will take on nationally-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College in their return to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 29 at Wilkinson Tennis Complex in St. Peter.

Northwestern claimed the doubles point by sweeping the three matches before picking up wins at the No. 3-6 singles spots to top St. Olaf. Junior

Lou Smith logged victories at the top-two spots for St. Olaf.
Vizoli extended his winning streak to five matches with a 6-1, 6-3 victory atop the lineup, while Smith got his first of back-to-back singles wins on the day after his opponent was forced to retire with Smith ahead 5-3 in the opening set. All four of Northwestern's singles wins came in straight sets.

St. Olaf won two of the three doubles matches and went on to take four of the six singles matches, with three of the four coming in super tiebreakers. Meunier and Schultz teamed up for a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles before winning by identical 10-8 super-tiebreaker scores in matches that ended seconds apart.
In addition to Meunier and Schultz's doubles victory, Vizoli and Smith posted a 7-5 win at the top spot to give the Oles the doubles point. Sophomore
Marjan Veldic joined Smith, Schultz, and Meunier in recording singles victories for St. Olaf.
In the second match of his career at No. 1 singles, Veldic won a see-saw match by a 6-0, 0-6, 1-0 (10-4) victory. Smith completed his 2-0 day with a 6-4, 6-1 win at the No. 2 spot before Schultz and Meunier outlasted their opponents at No. 5 and No. 6 singles in super tiebreakers. Schultz bounced back from dropping the first set to log a 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-8) victory, while Meunier recovered from losing the second set in a 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-8) win.
