Men's soccer ranked No. 2 in United Soccer Coaches Poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The St. Olaf College men's soccer team came in at No. 2 in the fifth United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Poll of the regular season, as released on Tuesday.

After spending the previous three weeks as the No. 1 team in the country, St. Olaf (12-0-1) dipped one spot to No. 2 this week after a 1-0-1 week that included the team's first non-win of the season with a 2-2 tie at UW-Platteville on Tuesday. The Oles have been ranked in the top three all season and have been in the top 10 in each of the last 12 United Soccer Coaches national polls dating back to this time last year.

After Tuesday's tie, St. Olaf got back in the win column with a 4-1 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) victory over the College of St. Scholastica on Saturday. The Oles are the lone team yet to drop points in the conference, are one of eight remaining unbeaten teams in the country, and led NCAA Division III with a .962 winning percentage.

St. Olaf dropped down to No. 6 in the NCAA Power Index (NPI) after Tuesday's tie but moved back up to No. 4 after Saturday's win. Middlebury College moved up to No. 1 in the coaches' poll and is the current No. 1 team in the NPI, which is the statistical model used by the NCAA to evaluate teams for the NCAA Championships.

Head coach Justin Oliver's team currently ranks fourth in NCAA Division III in assists (38), fifth in assists per game (2.92), sixth in goal differential (+30), ninth in corner kicks per game (7.77), ninth in points (110), 10th in points per game (8.46), 11th in save percentage (0.867), 12th in goals-against average (0.462), 13th in shutout percentage (0.615), and 13th in goals (36).

St. Olaf will take on UW-Superior at home at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 13.
