KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The St. Olaf College men's soccer team was ranked No. 1 for the third consecutive week in the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Poll, as announced on Tuesday.
St. Olaf (11-0-0) continued atop the national coaches' poll for the third week in a row after posting a pair of shutouts against Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) opposition last week. The Oles blanked Carleton College, 3-0, on Wednesday and Concordia-Moorhead, 4-0, on Saturday.
In a week where 23 of the 25 spots in the poll were occupied by a different team than the week before, the No. 1 and No. 2 teams – St. Olaf and Middlebury College – were the lone teams to maintain their same rankings. The Oles are the lone team in NCAA Divisions I, II, and III that has won all of its games this season.
The week marked the fifth No. 1 ranking in program history for St. Olaf, which was ranked No. 4 in the NCAA Power Index (NPI) this week. The NPI is an objective statistical model that the NCAA uses to rank teams and determine the fields for the NCAA Championships. The NPI is based off: winning percentage, strength of schedule, a quality win bonus, and a home/away multiplier.
The Oles sill start their week with a trip to UW-Platteville for a 7 p.m. kickoff on Tuesday, Oct. 6.
