Four Oles named All-Americans in indoor 800-meter run

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Senior Cullen Moore, senior Lance Nemecek, junior Christian Fells, and first year Paxon Myers of the St. Olaf College men's track and field team were officially recognized as Second Team All-Americans by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Monday.

The quartet of Oles all earned All-America honors for their performances in the 800-meter run at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships last week. Top-eight individual finishers and relays took home First Team All-America honors, while those who finished ninth through 16th individually, and ninth and 10th as part of a relay, earned second-team distinction.

All four Oles landed their first All-America accolades, as Moore finished 12th (1:53.28), followed by Nemecek in 13th (1:53.47), Fells in 15th (1:53.97), and Myers in 16th (1:54.78) at the national indoor meet on Friday in Birmingham, Ala. The four qualifiers were the most in a single indoor event in program history for St. Olaf and were the first Oles to be national qualifiers in the 800 since Mark Brensan's runner-up finish in 2001.

To start the outdoor season, St. Olaf will send a group to the WashU Distance Carnival in St. Louis, Mo. on Thursday and Friday, March 26-27.
