Paxon Myers of the St. Olaf College men's track and field team were officially recognized as Second Team All-Americans by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Monday.
The quartet of Oles all earned All-America honors for their performances in the 800-meter run at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships last week. Top-eight individual finishers and relays took home First Team All-America honors, while those who finished ninth through 16th individually, and ninth and 10th as part of a relay, earned second-team distinction.
All four Oles landed their first All-America accolades, as Moore finished 12th (1:53.28), followed by Nemecek in 13th (1:53.47), Fells in 15
th (1:53.97), and Myers in 16th (1:54.78) at the national indoor meet on Friday in Birmingham, Ala. The four qualifiers were the most in a single indoor event in program history for St. Olaf and were the first Oles to be national qualifiers in the 800 since Mark Brensan's runner-up finish in 2001.
To start the outdoor season, St. Olaf will send a group to the WashU Distance Carnival in St. Louis, Mo. on Thursday and Friday, March 26-27.
