OWATONNA, Minn. – The St. Olaf College women's tennis team defeated shorthanded Bethany Lutheran College, 7-0, on Friday evening at West Hills Tennis and Fitness Center.
Facing a Bethany Lutheran (3-9) team with just four available players, St. Olaf (5-4) won all six of the contested matches to improve to 5-2 in its last seven matches. The Vikings were forced to default the No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches, as well as the No. 3 doubles match.
Seniors
Alexandra Berns and
Emma Clift rolled to their ninth consecutive win at No. 1 doubles with a 6-1 triumph to quickly get the Oles the doubles point with the default at the No. 3 spot. The No. 2 doubles match went all the way to a tiebreaker before sophomore
Lidia Bach and junior
Charlotte Sloane took the breaker, 7-4, in their first match as a tandem this season.
All four singles wins for St. Olaf came in straight sets. Berns bounced back from her first dual-match loss of the season with a 6-2, 6-0 victory atop the lineup. First year
Dana Keesler posted a 6-2, 6-1 win in her first match at No. 2 singles.
Junior
Mads Hockmuth logged her first win of the season via a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles, while junior
Elliana Loesch was victorious in her singles debut this season with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles.
The Oles will travel to the St. Louis area for four matches over spring break, beginning with a 9 a.m. match at Webster University on Sunday, March 29.
