GREENVILLE, Ill. – The St. Olaf College women's tennis team stretched its winning streak to three with a 4-3 victory over Greenville University on Monday afternoon at Scott J. Burgess Tennis Complex.
St. Olaf (7-4) used a 7-5 win at No. 3 doubles to grab the lead heading into singles and got the split it needed with victories from senior
Alexandra Berns, first year
Dana Keesler, and junior
Elliana Loesch to top Greenville (7-5). The match was the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
Berns and classmate
Emma Clift moved to 11-0 in dual matches at No. 1 doubles this season with a 6-2 victory, but the Panthers offset that win with a 6-4 triumph at No. 2 doubles. With the doubles point hinging on the result of their match, first year
Norah Brusco and sophomore
Haley Swanson edged their opponents by a 7-5 margin to secure the point.
After Greenville took a 2-1 lead with wins at No. 2 and No. 4 singles, Keesler evened it up by outlasting her opponent for a 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8) victory at No. 3 singles for her seventh win of the season. Berns followed by winning a pair of tiebreakers at No. 1 singles to move to a team-best 9-2 in singles this season. Loesch proceeded to wrap up the team victory with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles for her third victory in as many singles matches this season.
St. Olaf will continue its trip with a 1 p.m. match at Millikin University on Tuesday, March 31.
