Oles win fourth in a row with 6-1 victory at Millikin

DECATUR, Ill. – The St. Olaf College women's tennis team won its fourth match in a row with a 6-1 victory over Millikin University on Tuesday afternoon at Fairview Park Tennis Complex.

St. Olaf (8-4) won all three doubles matches and five of the six singles matches to defeat Millikin (2-12), which only had five available players. Three of the five contested singles matches went to super tiebreakers, with the Oles winning two of the three.

Seniors Alexandra Berns and Emma Clift posted a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles for their 12th consecutive victory, a streak that is the longest for a St. Olaf No. 1 doubles pairing since Erin McDonald and Margaret Zimmermann won 14 in a row in 2017. Sophomores Evelyn Smiley and Lidia Bach won a tiebreaker at No. 2 doubles in their first match as a tandem, in addition to a default at No. 3 doubles.

Despite resting Berns, its No. 1 singles player, St. Olaf got the job done in singles by winning four of the five contested matches. In her first collegiate match atop the lineup, Clift logged a 6-4, 7-5 victory at No. 1 singles. Junior Charlotte Sloane added a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles, junior Elliana Loesch improved to 4-0 on the season with a 6-2, 0-6, 1-0 (10-8) victory at No. 4 singles, and first year Haley Swanson earned a 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-8) win at No. 5 singles in her first collegiate singles match in the lineup.

The Oles will conclude their trip with a 2 p.m. match at Principia College on Thursday, April 2.
