BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Senior
Roxanne Ring and sophomore
Lou Smith of the St. Olaf College softball and men's tennis teams, respectively, were honored among this week's Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Athletes of the Week, as announced on Monday.
Ring was selected as the MIAC Softball Pitcher of the Week for the fourth time in her career, while Smith was named the MIAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the first time. Smith became the first Ole to be recognized as the MIAC Athlete of the Week in men's tennis since
Bogdan Vizoli on March 10, 2025.
Ring picked up the win in all four of her appearances in St. Olaf's 6-0 week in MIAC play while now allowing an earned run across 22.2 innings in the circle. The senior threw three complete games, including two shutouts, while holding opponents to a .177 batting average with 22 strikeouts and just three walks. Ring closed out the week with a one-hit shutout with no walks and eight strikeouts against the College of St. Scholastica on Sunday.
Smith was 2-0 at No. 2 singles and 2-0 at No. 1 doubles as St. Olaf secured a playoff spot with a pair of 4-3 MIAC victories last week. The sophomore did not lose a set in either of his singles matches, including a 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) win against Bethel University on Wednesday that evened the match at 3-3. He was also part of 7-6 (7-4) and 7-5 victories in the wins over Bethel and Hamline University.
