Joey Kronzer

Joey Kronzer '16 is in his third season as the head coach for the St. Olaf men's and women's tennis teams in 2025-26 after being promoted from assistant coach on July 12, 2023.

In two seasons, Kronzer has guided the women's program to a 24-11 (.686) overall record and a 12-8 (.600) mark in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) and the men's program to a 13-20 (.394) overall record and a 9-9 (.500) mark in conference play. After not making the MIAC Playoffs since 2015, the St. Olaf men have qualified for the postseason in both of Kronzer's seasons, while the women made the field in 2024-25 after missing out on a tiebreaker the year before. The men's team picked up its first playoff victory since 2014 with a 4-2 quarterfinal win over Concordia-Moorhead on April 29, 2025.

In Kronzer's two seasons, the women's program has produced four All-MIAC singles players, five All-MIAC doubles players, 1 MIAC All-Playoff Team honoree, eight Academic All-MIAC selections, and 13 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honorees. The men's program has had one MIAC Rookie of the Year, five All-MIAC singles players, four All-MIAC doubles players, two MIAC All-Playoff Team honorees, 10 Academic All-MIAC choices, and seven CSC Academic All-District honorees.

Prior to his promotion, Kronzer spent three seasons as an assistant coach for both programs, working alongside Scott Nesbit and Chris Kuna. During Kronzer’s three years as an assistant coach, the St. Olaf women’s program posted a combined record of 22-20 (.523) overall, including a mark of 16-13 (.552) in MIAC play, and qualified for the MIAC Playoffs in all three seasons. The Oles advanced to the semifinals of the six-team tournament in both 2020-21 and 2022-23. The St. Olaf men’s program won at least six matches and recorded at least three MIAC victories in each of Kronzer’s three seasons as an assistant.

Prior to his time at St. Olaf, Kronzer spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Hamline University (2017-19) and one season on the staff at the University of St. Thomas (2019-20). As a student-athlete at St. Olaf, Kronzer was an All-MIAC selection in both singles and doubles in each of his final three seasons and helped the Oles qualify for the MIAC Playoffs three times, including runs to the championship match in 2013-14 and the semifinals in 2014-15.

Kronzer graduated from St. Olaf in 2016 with a bachelor of arts in psychology and went on to earn his master of science in kinesiology, sport and exercise psychology from the University of Minnesota in 2020.
