PhotosNo. 24 St. Thomas defeated St. Olaf 69-7 in a MIAC football game on Saturday afternoon at Manitou Field.
The Tommies (3-1, 1-1 MIAC) racked up 689 yards and scored on all nine red zone possessions in the lopsided victory. St. Olaf (0-5, 0-3 MIAC) avoided the shutout with a 34-yard return and score on fumble recovery by
John Bennett with 2:29 left in regulation.
UST used two Ole turnovers in a 34-point second quarter. Nick Waldvogel rushed for two touchdowns in the frame while Matt O'Connell had two touchdown throws to Charlie Dowdle in the final 4:35 before the half. Brenton Braddock ran for 119 yards on 16 carries and two touchdowns while O'Connell was 21-for-25 passing for 266 yards.
The Oles'
Nate Penz was 12-of-24 for 85 yards in the loss. The St. Olaf defense was paced by
Riley Hedstrom's 10 tackles and
Coleman Foley, who had nine with a sack.
St. Olaf returns home next Saturday for a game with Gustavus Adolphus College at 1 p.m.
