Justin Pahl had 28 points to lift St. Olaf past Division II Southwest Minnesota State University 91-88 in two overtimes in a men's basketball exhibition game on Monday night at the R/A Facility.
Sterling Nielsen added 17 points, five rebounds and four assists for the Oles, who led 40-28 at the half. Joey Bartlett had 28 points on 11-for-15 shooting for the Mustangs in the loss.
Ben Figini had 14 points and 13 rebounds in his exhibition debut for St. Olaf. Pahl was 4-for-6 from the three-point line and his layup in the final seconds all but sealed the win.
SMSU overcame a 4-point deficit with back-to-back three-pointers -- from Bartlett and MJ Delmore at the buzzer -- in the final 11 seconds of regulation to force overtime. The Mustangs were coming off of an 81-63 loss at Nebraska on Thursday, a game they led at the break.
