WINONA, Minn. - Phil Heinle stopped all 31 shots, recording a shutout, as Saint Mary's University beat St. Olaf men's hockey 3-0 Friday night.

St. Olaf (6-12-2, 4-6-1 MIAC) outshot SMU (9-7-2, 4-3-2 MIAC) 31-22 as David Rath, Peter Lindblad, and JT Paine each recorded four shots.

Kevin Walz scored the first goal for the Cardinals coming at 10:00 in the second, assisted by Nick Albergo and Connor Langfield. Â SMU's Jared Johnson scored again in the third at 8:34.

Martin Gruse spoiled St. Olaf's chances of a comeback with an empty net goal with 1:28 left to play in the game.
