BLAINE, Minn. - The St. Olaf men's hockey team opened the season a 5-5 tie against Bethel University in the first day of the MIAC Showcase on Friday night.

The Oles' (0-0-1, 0-0-1 MIAC) Drew Otto had a hat trick, scoring a goal in each of the three periods. Otto also added an assist on Mark Rath's tying goal, coming at 14:25 in the third period.

Four of the five goals scored by Bethel (0-0-1, 0-01 MIAC) came from defensemen.

There were 14 penalties in the contest, seven aside. Each team capitalized on the powerplay, St. Olaf had two powerplay goals while Bethel netted three.

St. Olaf will head back to Blaine on Sunday afternoon to face Concordia College.
