Nate Penz threw for 411 yards and two touchdowns, but Hamline University edged St. Olaf 31-30 in the Oles' final home game of the season on Saturday at Manitou Field.
The game was tied at 24-24 before
J.J. Strnad scored on a one-yard touchdown to put the Oles ahead 30-24. St. Olaf missed the extra point, its second miss of the afternoon, with 6:41 left in the fourth quarter. Hamline then marched down the field and scored on a Justice Spriggs to Jamian Maes 20-yard touchdown pass with 20 seconds left in the game to seal the win.
Justice Spriggs had 259 passing yards and 30 rushing yards to lead the Pipers (3-5, 1-5 MIAC). Four different players scored for the Pipers. Brendan Nachtrieb, Jamian Maes, Ryan Ferkinhoff, and Philip Sherman all had a touchdown for Hamline.
Penz was 27-for-41 with one interception.
The Oles'
Connor Yahn had a 47-yard touchdown and
Connor McCormick had a 38-yard touchdown.
J.J. Strnad had another big day for the Oles as well. Strnad had 140 yards rushing and two touchdowns.
Owen Witte was 1-for-3 for field goal attempts.
Connor Yahn and
Tommy Fleetham led the defense with 12 tackles a piece.
The St. Olaf offense had its fourth straight 30-point effort.
The Oles will travel to Saint John's University for their last game of the season on Saturday, Nov. 14 at 1 p.m.
