Makenna Ash had 18 points and
Betsey Daly 17 and nine rebounds as the St. Olaf women's basketball team came from behind to defeat Central College 57-47 in the first round of the St. Olaf-Carleton Thanksgiving Classic on Friday afternoon at Skoglund Center.
Lauren Gutierrez had nine rebounds, four points, three assists and two steals for St. Olaf (3-1) in the win.  St. Olaf closed the game on a 16-7 run over the final seven-plus minutes. The Oles trailed by eight at the half and by as many as 12 in the second quarter. St. Olaf took the lead late in the third quarter and outscored the Dutch 20-7 in the final period.
Claire Marburger had 21 points and six rebounds to pace Central (1-3), which was 1-for-15 from three-point range. The Oles were 5-for-23 from long range.
Cold shooting doomed the Oles in the first half. St. Olaf was a mere 5-for-27 from the field and 2-for-10 from 3-point range in the first two quarter.Â
St. Olaf will play No. 21 Luther College tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the final game in the event. Carleton will play Central at 12 p.m. in the other game.Â
