MENOMONIE, Wis. - The St. Olaf men's hockey team scored three goals in the third period to come within one goal of the Blue Devils, but Joe Anderson scored on an empty net to give UW-Stout a 5-3 victory on Saturday night.
UW-Stout (6-4-2) took a commanding lead of 3-0 after two periods with Shayne McLughlin accounting for two of the Blue Devils goals. Â In the third period,
Andy Jordahl,
David Rath (PP) and
Patrick Sivets each put a shot past Stout goalkeeper Nick Schmit who had held a shutout for 47 minutes before Jordahl found an opening. Â
St. Olaf (2-8-3, 0-4-2 MIAC) was 1-for-6 on the powerplay, while UW-Stout was 0-for-1. Â The Blue Devils out-shot the Oles by a total of 33-25.
In net,
Luke Andriuk made 28 saves, against 32 shots faced. Â Schmit made 22 saves on the night.
The Oles are off for the holidays, and return to the rink on January 9 against the Blugolds of UW-Eau Claire.
