No. 3 Tommies outmuscle No. 15 Ole men 66-49

ST. PAUL, MInn. - Reserve Jimmy Remke had 14 points in 18 minutes to help No. 3 St. Thomas to a 66-49 MIAC men's basketball win over No. 15 St. Olaf on Monday night at Steve Fritz Court.

The Tommies (21-2, 16-2 MIAC) held St. Olaf to a season-low 31.7 percent shooting night and outscored the visiting Oles 28-8 over a long stretch in the first half. The Oles (20-4, 15-4 MIAC) led 4-1 in the opening minutes but went 3-for-18 from the floor with four turnovers over the next 12-plus minutes. UST led 35-17 at the half.

Caleb Lunning had a team-best 12 points and Sterling Nielsen 10 in the loss, which snapped the Oles' seven-game winning streak.

Marcus Alipate and Taylor Montero added 10 points each for UST. The Tommies clinched the top seed in the MIAC playoffs and at least a share of the regular season crown with the win.

St. Olaf, which wraps up the regular season with a home game with Concordia-Moorhead on Wednesday, will be the No. 2 seed in the MIAC playoffs. The Oles will host a semifinal game on Friday, Feb. 27.
