St. John's uses five goal third period to defeat Oles

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The St. Olaf men's hockey team allowed five goals in the third period as St. John's defeated the Oles by a score of 7-2 on Saturday night.

The Oles scored a quick goal 2:20 into the game when Justin Plate netted a goal from the front of the net.  Assists for the goal went to Matt Kroska and Drew Otto.  The Johnnies responded less than three minutes later with a goal by Connor Kelly and another goal shortly after by Sam Valerius.

St. Olaf (3-11-3, 1-5-2 MIAC) tied the game with a goal from Patrick Sivets, and the game went into the third period tied at 2 apiece.

St. John's (6-9-2, 4-4 MIAC) opened a barrage in the third period, scoring five goals in the span of 12 minutes.

In net for the Johnnies, Saxton Sole made 19 saves on the night, and for the Oles, Jude Hull blocked 30 of the 37 shots he faced.

The Oles faceoff against Gustavus Adolphus College on Friday in Northfield for another MIAC doubleheader.
