Patrick Sivets scored twice for St. Olaf, but host Saint Mary's held on for a 4-3 MIAC men's hockey win over the visiting Oles on Friday night.
Will Dittrich had the Oles' other goal, on an assist from Jonas Fredricksson at 12:05 of the third period to get the Oles within a goal. SMU held on, however, behind Phil Heinle's 21-save effort to hand the Oles their third one-goal loss in the last four games (1-3-0).
Chad Cesarz scored twice for SMU (4-1-2, 3-0-0 MIAC). His second goal was a power-play score that gave the Cardinals a 3-1 lead. Sivets scored minutes later to close the gap, but Landon Farrel made it 4-2 on assists from Kelvin Walz and Jared Johnson. Walz had two assists.
Steven Sherman had two assists for the Oles (1-6-0, 0-3-0 MIAC).
The teams meet in Northfield in the series finale tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m.
