NORTHFIELD, Minn. -
Steven Sherman and
Carter Lukenda scored third period goals to help St. Olaf come back from a two-goal deficit and tie Marian University, 3-3, in a men's hockey game on Sunday afternoon at Northfield Ice Arena.
Lukenda's one-timer from the right came on a pass from
Gordon Wells with 2:10 left in regulation.
Luke Ranallo also had an assist on the goal. With 5:53 left, Sherman got the Oles within a score on assists from
Drew Otto, who had the other St. Olaf goal, and
JT Paine.
Otto's shorthanded score was his third of the weekend and gave St. Olaf a 1-0 lead at 4:26 of the first. The Oles killed nine minutes of penalties in opening 20 minutes, on three penalties, and a two-minute infraction in the overtime session. St. Olaf was 0-of-2 on its two opportunities, one in the second period and one in the third.
Jude Hull did the bulk of his duties in the first period, when he made 14 of his 28 saves, in net for St. Olaf. Marian's Mike Baldwin made 28 saves as well in the tie, including 12 in the third period.
St. Olaf returns to league play on Friday night with a home game against Augsburg College at 7:30 p.m.
