ST. PAUL, Minn. - Hamline University scored a 4-1 MIAC men's hockey win over visiting St. Olaf in the league opener for each school on Friday night at Oscar Johnson Arena.
The Pipers' (2-0-1) Russ Jordan had two goals and an assist and Mitch Hall two assists.
Tobias Gabrielson scored the Oles' goal on an assist from
Will Dittrich at 2:13 of the second period to cut into a two-goal Hamline advantage. The Pipers then got a Jaycob McCombs score at 16:42 before Jordan's power-play score at 13:20 of the final period.
St. Olaf had a 25-23 advantage in shots through the first two periods. HU outshot the Oles 12-3 over the final 20 minutes and went 2-for-4 on the power play. St. Olaf was 0-of-4.
The teams meet in Northfield at 7:30 p.m. in the Oles' home opener and series finale.
