COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - No. 8 Saint John's University defeated St. Olaf 44-0 in a MIAC football game before an announced crowd of 10,347 at Clemens Stadium.
The Johnnies racked up 406 yards of offense -- 222 on the ground and 219 through the air -- while holding St. Olaf to 90. Jackson Erdmann threw for 158 yards on 9-of-14 with four touchdowns and no interceptions to lead SJU (3-0, 1-0 MIAC).
The St. Olaf defense tightened in the second half, limiting the Johnnies to a 37-yard field goal in the final two quarters. The Oles'
Luke Dahl had 10 tackles,
Jacob Ossell nine and
Colten Yahn seven, including two for a loss.
The Johnnies scored on pass plays of 28, 16, 78 and four yards. The 78-yard strike from Erdmann to Matt Miller made it 20-0 late in the first quarter. The Johnnies capitalized on a blocked punt and recovery in the end zone early in the second quarter.
St. Olaf returns home next week in the Oles' homecoming game against Bethel University.
