ST. PAUL, Minn. - The St. Olaf women's track and field team opened its season at the University of St. Thomas on Friday night.
In the throwing events,
Kristen Diederichs led the Oles in the shot put with a fourth place throw of 10.34 meters, leading a pack of four other Oles including
Mackenzie Schoustra,
Hannah Nordby,
Emily Bohlig, and
Myrto Neamonitaki. Â Nordby was the top Olaf thrower in the weight throw with a toss of 12.02 meters.
On the track, the Oles collected two victories with
Jordan Lutz winning the 600 meters in 1:41.59 and
Josefine Brekke winning the mile run in 5:25.16.  Lutz led a pack of three Oles also including
Susan Hoops (1:44.27) and
Allison Trezona (1:45.06). Â Sophomore transfer
Mary Naas led most of the mile before Brekke pulled ahead with less than 100 meters to go.  Naas finished in 5:25.28,
Jessica Bentley finished third in 5:31.56, and
Meredith Moore was fourth in 5:36.12.
In the sprinting events,
Lillie Meakim just missed qualifying for finals in the 60 meters, running a time of 8.65 to place ninth, while the top eight qualify for finals.  Schoustra finished fifth in the 200 meter dash, crossing the line in 27.77.
The Oles race next Friday at the Carleton triangular meet against Carleton and Hamline.
