NORTHFIELD, Minn. -
Nate Albers' 18 points led a balanced St. Olaf attack in a 79-71, back-and-forth MIAC men's basketball game on Monday night at Skoglund Center.
Four other Oles reached double figures in the win.
Matthew Stroud added 12 points and three assists.
Robert Tobroxen and
Austin Majeskie added 11 while
Frank Delaney had 10 to go with five assists, four blocks and six rebounds. Tobroxen had nine rebounds.
Wylie Ferron had 19 points and Aaron Romportl 14 to lead the Cardinals (5-8, 3-6 MIAC).
St. Olaf (7-7, 5-4 MIAC), which has won four straight, raced to a 30-15 first half lead before the Cardinals closed the advantage to four at the half, 41-37. SMU then took an 11-point lead, at 56-46, with 13:08 left. St. Olaf countered with a 14-2 rally to take a 59-58 advantage with 8:01 left.
Stroud nailed a three-pointer with 3:44 to give the Oles a four-point edge. He later hit four free throws and had a block in the final 30 seconds left to help seal the win. His 12 points were a season-high.
St. Olaf plays at Carleton College on Wednesday at 7:45 p.m.
