ST. PETER, Minn. -
Drew Otto scored the game-winning goal in overtime as the St. Olaf men's hockey team defeated Gustavus 3-2 on Friday night.
Gustavus (1-11-4, 0-6-1 MIAC) struck first with a goal by Jake McCann at 13:19 in the second period. St. Olaf (5-10-2, 3-5-1 MIAC) answered one minute later as
Tobias Gabrielsen beat Gustie keeper Erik Johnson.
Patrick Sivets also found the back of the net late in the second period on an assist from
Judd Loewenstein.
Eight minutes into the third period, the Gusties tied the game up for the third time at 2-2, and the scored remained there until OT. Otto's goal came at 0:22 in OT on a power play goal assisted by Gabrielen and
Steven Sherman.
The teams both took 32 shots, but the Oles were more efficient on the power play, going 1-3, whereas the Gusties failed to score in their lone power play opportunity.
In goal for St. Olaf,
Jude Hull made 30 saves, while Johnson made 29 for the Gusties.
St. Olaf, which is 4-4-2 in its last 10 games, plays again at home tomorrow (Saturday) night for game two of a doubleheader against Gustavus.
