ST. PAUL, Minn. - Zach Smith's bucket in the closing seconds lifted Hamline University to a 60-58 MIAC men's basketball victory over visiting St. Olaf on Wednesday evening at Hutton Arena.
Hamline was paced by Jay Betts' 16 points off the bench. Betts went 4-for-4 from three-point range. Smith had 11 points and six assists and TC Robinson 10 points for HU (7-4, 4-2 MIAC).
The Oles'
Robert Tobroxen picked up a double-double, with 14 points and 10 rebounds, and
Austin Majeskie had 11 points in the loss. St Olaf trailed by 13 early in the second half before closing the lead to five with 7:59 left. The Oles tied the game with a Tobroxen three-pointer with 1:21 remaining. The Oles held but Tobroxen missed on the following possession, with the game tied, to set up Smith's heroics.
St. Olaf returns home on Saturday for a 3 p.m. game against Macalester College.
