NORTHFIELD, Minn. - No. 3 UW-Stevens Point defeated the St. Olaf men's hockey team 5-1 on Friday night at Northfield Ice Arena.
The defending national champion Pointers (10-2-2) scored five unanswered, including three in the final 20 minutes, after the Oles (3-10-1) grabbed a 1-0 first period lead. The game was within a goal for the first 40 minutes, but the Pointers' Lawrence Cornelier scored eight seconds into the final period. Cornelier and Jacob Barber had a goal and an assist each for UW-SP.Â
The Oles' goal came from Sawyer Jacobsen on an assist from
Gordon Wells at 1:47 of the first.Â
St. Olaf returns to MIAC play next weekend with a home-and-home with Saint John's University. The teams meet on Friday at Northfield Ice Arena before a Saturday night game at the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud.Â
