NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The St. Olaf College football team's home game against Bethel University on Saturday, Oct. 13 will be the team's "Tackle Cancer" Game, as the Oles help raise money for the fight against cancer.
For the event, St. Olaf has set a goal of raising $2,000 to benefit the Randy Shaver Cancer Research and Community Fund, which funds cancer-related research and community projects in the state of Minnesota. Founded in 2003, the funds' mission is to support research, prevention, treatment and other needs of the cancer community throughout the state of Minnesota.
Last year, the Randy Shaver Cancer Research and Community Fund also partnered with the Minnesota Football Coaches Association (MFCA) to challenge high school football teams in the state to sponsor at least one "Tackle Cancer" game during September and October and raised over $313,000.
