Men's basketball overcomes late 10-point deficit, tops Auggies 68-67

MINNEAPOLIS - Dominic Bledsoe's lay up with 11 seconds left lifted St. Olaf, which overcome a 10-point deficit with 3:04 to play, to a 68-67 MIAC men's basketball victory over Augsburg University on Monday night at Si Melby Hall.

The win is the eighth in a row for St. Olaf (17-5, 13-4 MIAC), which clinched an MIAC Playoffs berth in the process.

Bledsoe had 13 of his team-high 17 points in the first half. Frank Delaney added 15 points, including a bucket with 20 seconds left that pulled the Oles within one. On the in-bounds play that followed Delaney's bucket, Nate Albers tied up the Auggies' Collin Olmsheid and St. Olaf gained possession on the alternating arrow.

Following Bledsoe's go-ahead score, St. Olaf forced a turnover and had a chance to go up by three, but Austin Korba's first free throw in a one-and-one missed. Augsburg's Kevin McKiernan had a look at the buzzer, but missed.

Olmsheid had a game-best 30 points for the Auggies (16-6, 11-6 MIAC). Olmsheid had 17 of the Auggies' first 19 points.

The Oles, again, shot better than 50 percent from the field, going 27-of-52. It marked the fourth straight and sixth in the last seven games that St. Olaf has shot better than 50 percent from the field.

Robert Tobroxen added 11 points, five assists and seven rebounds while Korba had nine points, three assists and seven rebounds.

Booker Coplin had 18 points, including a go-ahead three-pointer with 29 seconds left for Augsburg, which led by as many as 12 in the second half.
