St. Olaf trailed 17-15 in the first set but used a 4-1 run out of a timeout to take a 19-18 lead after back-to-back UW-Stout attack errors. The Blue Devils rebounded by winning the next to points to take the lead back by one, but the Oles rattled off the final six points of the set to grab the opener. Lannom was in on two blocks in the 6-0 close to the set and also posted a kill on set point.

The Blue Devils raced out to a 5-1 lead early in the second before the Oles battled back to tie it at 10-10. UW-Stout won five of the next six points, prompting a St. Olaf timeout and led for the remainder of the set. The Oles closed a 24-17 deficit to 24-20 only for an attack error to even the match at a set apiece.

UW-Stout held leads of 5-0 and 7-1 to start the third set but St. Olaf won five-straight points in the middle of the set to take a 15-12 advantage. With the Oles clinging to a 23-22 lead late in the third, Rewers and Reid provided back-to-back kills to give St. Olaf a two-sets-to-one lead.
