WAVERLY, Iowa - The St. Olaf College men's soccer team fell to Wartburg College, 3-0, in a non-conference matchup Wednesday evening.
Wartburg (3-4) posted goals from Ben Johnson, Ayo Adebayo and Jack Palen throughout the game, including Johnson's goal in the 10th minute of play to break the deadlock and take the lead over St. Olaf. The Knights goalie Paul Koebke Barsic collected five saves in the shutout over St. Olaf (3-4).
In his collegiate debut for the Oles, sophomore goalkeeper
Ben Meyers posted 10 saves, including seven in the second half.
In the 61st minute of play, the Knights took a two-goal lead when Palen crossed the ball to the front of the goal and Adebayo knocked it in and make the score 2-0.
Moments later, Wartburg struck again and added its third and final goal from Palen to account for the final score at 3-0.
Sophomore
Thierno Gueye led the Oles with four shots and two shots on goal and classmate
Farid Sani added two shots on goal.
St. Olaf is back to action Saturday, Sept. 22 in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest against Saint John's at 4 p.m. in Collegeville, Minn.
