Lannom earns second MIAC Hitter of the Week award of season

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – For the second time this season, sophomore middle Katelyn Lannom of the St. Olaf College volleyball team was named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Volleyball Hitter of the Week, as announced on Monday by the conference office.

In two MIAC sweeps last week, Lannom recorded 19 kills without an error to hit .442 with an average of 3.17 kills per set for St. Olaf. The sophomore was previously named the MIAC Hitter of the Week back on Sept. 9, and her recognition marked the fifth time an Ole has collected one of the two MIAC weekly volleyball awards this season.

On Friday, Lannom had nine kills on 19 errorless swings to hit .474 in a sweep of Concordia-Moorhead and, the next day, she totaled 10 kills without an error on 24 swings (.417) as the Oles swept fifth-ranked Saint Benedict. The victory over the Bennies was St. Olaf's first over a top-five opponent since Oct. 26, 2001.

This season, Lannom ranks in the MIAC's top 10 in seven statistical categories: tied for first in service aces per set (45), third in hitting percentage (.349), service aces per set (0.49) and points (337.5), fifth in kills (259), seventh in points per set (3.7), and tied for eighth in total blocks (62).

Lannom and the Oles return to action on Saturday, Oct. 19 in a 3 p.m. match at Saint Mary's in Winona.
