Wall named Sports Imports/AVCA Division III Player of the Week

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Junior setter Lexi Wall became the St. Olaf College volleyball team's fourth-ever Sports Imports/American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) NCAA Division III Player of the Week selection, as announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Wall earned the honor after recording 92 assists and 23 digs in just six sets over two matches last week, helping the Oles hit .297 over the two wins. The junior averaged 15.33 assists and 3.83 digs per set for St. Olaf, as the Oles swept Concordia-Moorhead and No. 5 Saint Benedict in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play.

The victory over the Bennies was the first for St. Olaf against a top-five opponent since a four-set win over No. 4 Elmhurst on Oct. 26, 2001.

The recognition made Wall the first Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week for St. Olaf since Kim Smisek '11 on Oct. 6, 2009. Prior to Smisek, Nicole Trnka '02 (Sept. 11, 2000) and Emily Sather '95 (Oct. 17, 1994) also received the award. Wall is the 16th MIAC student-athlete to be honored as the Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week.

Wall currently leads all of NCAA Division III in assists per set (11.42), just ahead of Emma Griffith of the University of Chicago (11.41), and total assists (1.051). Her 3,407 career assists ranks 12th among active NCAA Division III student-athletes and is the highest total of any non-senior.

Winners of seven-straight matches, the Oles take on Saint Mary's (Minn.) in Winona on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 3 p.m.
