Korba, Oles shoot past Auggies in regular season finale

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Austin Korba had 26 points as the St. Olaf men's basketball team outlasted Augsburg University 86-80 on Saturday afternoon at Si Melby Hall, surviving a 43-point effort from the Auggies' Booker Coplin. 

The Oles (13-12, 12-8 MIAC) will return to Augsburg on Tuesday night for a MIAC Playoffs first round match up with the fourth-seeded Auggies. St. Olaf will be making their second straight and sixth MIAC Playoffs appearance in the last eight seasons.

Nate Albers added 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting, while Troy Diggins Jr. had 11 in a balanced scoring afternoon for the Oles. Dominic Bledsoe added nine points to go with eight assists and six rebounds, while Frank Delaney had nine points as well and Noah Beck eight.

St. Olaf was on fire in the first half, making 8-of-16 from three-point range and 20-of-33 from the field. Korba finished the afternoon 10-of-16 from the field, including 4-of-7 from distance.

Coplin, the league's leading scorer by almost seven points per game, went 17-for-28 from the floor. He made 9-of-14 from three-point range and added seven rebounds and three assists. In the second half alone, he had 32 points on 13-of-19 shooting. In the final 2:24, he had 11 points with a dunk and three triples.

St. Olaf, which never trailed, raced to a nine-point advantage in the opening minutes. The Auggies closed within one with 7:25 left in the first half, but St. Olaf responded with a 14-2 run on the way to a 49-39 lead at the break. The Oles led by as many as 15 in the second half, before holding off the Auggies' Coplin-led rally.
